Q: What motivated you to apply to be a Local Joe?
A: Where do I even begin on this one...Let's see. I have loved running since high school. I was competitive in both high school and college. After college, I continued to run, but really missed the team aspect of the sport. Then comes a full time job, marriage, kids and the busy life that comes with all of that and running was pushed to the side. I would run, but not with much consistency. I would get excited for a race and train a bit, but once the race was over, I was done. A couple months later, I would get motivated again. That has been my cycle for the last 7 or 8 years. I miss competing. I miss how good running consistently makes me feel. I miss taking the time for myself on a daily basis to go out and do that run. I am also looking forward to meeting others within the running community and actually running with people! And I am so looking forward to being a part of the Start to Finish training program, as I know that will be a huge motivator for me.
Q: What is your background with running? Other athletics?
A: I have run since middle school. In high school, I did both cross country and track (definitely saw myself as more of a mid-distance runner as opposed to long distance runner) and continued competing at the collegiate level, as I ran both cross country and track at Fort Hays State. As an adult, I've kept up with the running, but it goes in spurts. I have also done some coaching - middle school track and field and Girls on the Run.
Q: Any interesting facts the world should know?
A: My hubby is a runner as well. We actually met at Fort Hays State, on the cross country team.
Please welcome our newest group of Joes. These nine individuals have agreed to let us closely observe their fall training as they all strive to meet first-time goals, redemptive goals, or even bucket list goals. The Local Joes will begin training with GoRun Wichita's Start2Finish Training Program on Saturday, June 20th. Be sure to follow this unique group along their journey and watch as they work their way to the finish line on Sunday, October 11th.
